The Drugs Might Work
I have come to understand that there is, apparently a giant food industry hell bent on making us ill and a giant Pharma industry selling pills and potions to treat these illnesses, all with the blessing of and often subsidised by governments. I am angered and at times fearful, humans seem to be the disposable pawns in a giant game.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe in the free market and free choice. It is regulatory capture and state sponsored misinformation that facilitates the present state of affairs, I abhor this. Food and Pharma have taken full advantage of the state, often using our money to their advantage. They are at times both poacher and gamekeeper.
Yesterday, I should have been delighted, signed off by the oncology team, all done. It was not stated out loud but I am, to all intents, cancer free and off to live my life. Instead of elation, I walked away from the hospital feeling disturbed, something was very wrong with my consultation.
The houseman I saw was pleasant enough but I could have been talking to one of the old ‘speak your weight’ machines, crossed with the possibly fictional drug pushers we were warned of as teenagers. When I spoke she clearly did not like what she heard, I was off script, she ignored most of my input and stuck unswervingly to her own narrative.
She seemed almost cross that I was refusing the hormonal drugs and their “possible” 12% preventative benefits. I felt like a naughty child, she knew best…
I mentioned that I had seen the GP regarding my silent reflux (re triggered by chemo) and had a two month course of Omeprazole that thus far, seems to have worked to reset my damaged stomach. Short term, this drug seems tolerable and effective, long term, it’s use can lead to weakened bones and other problems. Her response, “oh well you can always have more Omeprazole”, no mention of posture, exercise or diet. This set the pattern for the rest of our ‘conversation’.
Me “I suppose, due to the menopause, I am not sleeping all that well and find myself tired”. She, “if it gets bad see your GP for some sleeping pills”.
Me “I’ve had some neuropathy but Vitamin B12 supplements seem to be helping a lot”. She, “if that does not to go away we can give you some drugs for that”.
You get the picture…. A pill for every ailment. I was aghast, she did not even acknowledge the vital role that exercise can have in cancer prevention. No advice regarding lifestyle or self help. It was as though I was dealing with a pushy sales rep driven by commission.
She popped through to ask the consultant how I would arrange the MRI as mentioned in previous posts. On her return she said “Dr **** strongly advises the hormone treatment”. How many times do I have to say no? Just bullying; no case papers, presentation of stats or evidence just “be a good patient, take the pills and do as you are told”.
Healthcare is no longer about appropriate treatments for the individual, just follow the guidelines, deliver the script and big Pharma laughs all the way to the bank.
I will never know the exact trigger for my own cancer but, I am fairly certain that food played a part in it. The foods that the state has been advising us to eat or not eat over the years have pretty much been 100% wrong. Illnesses triggered by following this advice may plague us for generations.
Here are a few misconceptions
-Salt does not cause high blood pressure, this advice was based on one poor and biased study. Lack of salt causes a variety of problems including infertility.
-Saturated fat does not cause heart disease. The scientist (Ansel Keys) whose studies made this link has been discredited. Cherry picked data and false conclusions. This caused a switch to industrially produced seed oils, margarine and corn syrup, all largely waste products, subsidised by government and marketed to an unwary public.
-Cholesterol does not cause atherosclerosis, it actually has a protective effect.Cholesterol is vital to our immune systems, low cholesterol can leave us vulnerable to infections. “Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with a high cholesterol.”
More statins anyone?
-Red meat does not cause cancer or heart disease. It is one of the most nutritionally complex foods we can eat, the bioavailability of the nutrients in meat and fish are unparalleled.
I read a quote somewhere “Why blame the oldest of foods for the newest diseases?’
Here we are, cancer, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, dementia, depressive disorders and many other ‘modern diseases’ now at extraordinary levels. Some are easily preventable with lifestyle and diet changes but this seems of little concern to government and health organisations and at the coal face, the doctors we meet. Every day the papers bring us news of another wonder drug, the media has become little more than the propaganda wing of big Pharma.
The best drug discoveries were all made within the first half of the 20th century, including the antibiotics that have saved and continue to save many lives. However, the drug industry claims the credit for more than it’s share of mortality reduction. Improved sanitation, clean drinking water, better foods and cleaner air (indoors and out) have, in all probability, saved more lives.
Perversely, life expectancy in the West has stagnated and is in some places reversing. These ‘new’ diseases and our old friends Pharma at the heart. “Prescription drugs are the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer in the United States and Europe.” 26% of the UK population are taking drugs that cause dependance (benzodiazepines, SSRI’S etc).
Our diets have become poorer at a time when the availability of fresh food has never been better.
I don’t know how we reverse this situation on a state wide level but I do know that change starts with each of us taking charge of our own health. Every time you go for a walk, cook a simple meal, get some fresh air, relax and talk with friends you are one step further from state sponsored drug dependence. I consider being healthy an act of rebellion.
In the words of Ghandi “We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” –

Totally agree with everything you say.
Big pharma and the false food industry are rotten to the core.
Profit and self promotion their only interest.
Between them they are a danger to our health and quality of life.
Would it be ok to share this post on fb?
I am 100% in agreement and I think more people would benefit from this knowledge.
